 Passive voice


1. when we use the passive, who or what causes the action is often unknown or unimportant.
o   Is  this room cleaned everyday ?
2.  If  we want  to say who does or what causes we use by.
o   This house was built by my father.
3.  The passive form.
o   Simple present:  
is /am/are + past participle (V3)
Example :
 Active    : Andi cleans the floor
                Passive    : The floor is cleaned by  
                                    Andi.
o   Simple past     :
 was/were+ past participle (V3)
Example:        
Active  : Rina took a photo yesterday
Passive            : A photo was taken by Rina      yesterday
o   Present perfect: Has/have+been+pastparticiple (V3)
Example:            
Active   : Harry has written a letter .
Passive  : A letter has been written by Harry.
o   Present continuos:
Is/are+being+past participle (V3)
Example :          
 Active   : Mira is cooking a fish .
Passive: A fish is being cooked by Mira.
o   Past countinuos:

Was/were+being+past participle (V3)
Example:           
 Active   : Diana was reading a magazine.
Passive: A magazine was being read by Diana.

o   Modals:          
modals (will/would,can/could,must) +be +past participle (V3)
Example:             
Active : Rico can open the bottle.
Passive            : The bottle can be opened by Rico
